On October 7th, 2005 the IRDT-2R demonstrator was launched into a suborbital trajectory by a Russian Volna launcher from a Russian naval submarine in the Barents Sea. The demonstrator was planned to land in Kamchatka. Received telemetry data confirmed the initial phases of the mission to be nominal. Shortly after the re-entry phase radio contact to the Demonstrator disappeared. The vehicle could not found by intensive search and recovery activities.

Further IRDT technology development activities are being performed in frame of other programs.
