In 2002 EADS Astrium, Bremen, and Lavochkin Association, Moscow, founded the Joint Venture "Return & Rescue Space Systems GmbH" (RRSS). By combining the know-how in management, system engineering and long experience in the development of new space technologies, products and space systems, this Joint Venture has an excellent base for the joint development of new space technologies and to explore new markets. The initial focus is on the innovative Inflatable Reentry and Descent Technology IRDT.

Astrium GmbH holds a share of 51% in the Bremen based RRSS GmbH, Lavochkin Association holds 49%.

EADS Astrium is Europe`s leading space company and the European specialist on space transportation and manned space systems.EADS Astrium achieved revenues of € 3.2 billion in the year 2006. Main sites are in Bremen, Friedrichshafen, Ottobrunn, Lampoldshausen as well in Les Mureaux/Paris, and Aquitaine.
Lavochkin Association, located in Moscow, is one of Russia`s leading companies in the development of Earth satellites, interplanetary spacecrafts, and space-related technologies, being subordinated to the Federal Space Agency of Russia. Legal status: Federal Enterprise, established in 1937.
